Tips To Have A Good Camping Experience
Sunday, March 7th, 2010Numerous families have their own methods of spending time with each other but the most plain, cheap, but fun way of doing it is by going camping. Camping is the only activity where groups of people including families can appreciate nature while learning about solidarity, basic survival, and most importantly, bonding with one another. Getting away from it all is a strong factor to motivate grown-ups who wish to forget about the stresses of work or kids wanting to take a time off from their school and homeworks.
As you get ready to spend time with your kids in the wilderness, make sure that you pick out a proper spot to settle on and the things you need to bring along. Campgrounds differ in many ways. Some offer privacy and some allow strangers to come together. Some are safe while some can present some risks. Furthermore, it is also important to consider other peoples preferences, particularly from kids.
Family camping will necessitate more camping equipment than that of one or two person camping and the type and size of tents that will be used is also an important factor. A family of four would either need two medium sized tents or a large one that are roomy enough to shelter each one of them and their camping equipments.
Family camping tents could house a maximum of six to eight members but maximizing the tents capacity is not quite a pleasant experience. The popularity of tents with dividers are evident to families as they allow each member to have privacy. Parents would have a feeling of security for their kids by being together in one tent while enjoying their privacy and the dividers can be removed anytime by one zip.
Having a good camping experience can also be shaped by bringing along other camping equipments. Making an advance list of the other essentials is the best way not to forget. For the list and camping equipments to be more organized, grouping them in categories like gears, cash, foods, medical, utensils, entertainment, etc. will have a lesser chance of being forgotten. Food, cash, gears and medicines are the most important of all.
Food and cash are pretty straigforward but gears and first-aid kits need to be thought of carefully. Gears include tents, sleeping bags, hiking shoes, etc. Medicines include iodine, flu medicines, ointments, alcohol, and bandages, gauzes and cotton.
It is also important to consider the foods that kids would eat as these will be essential to their nutrition in the outdoors. Some foods that are common at home may not be a good idea to bring along when you go camping. One example is cereals where they usually need milk to be more tastier and nutritious. If the planned camping will last for several days, it would not be a good idea to bring foods that are bound to spoil without refrigeration. Milk and other dairy products fall under these and unless your kids do not mind eating cereals out of the box, it is best to leave cereals and dairies at home. Foods that are suitable in outdoor camping are canned goods, marshmallows, burgers and hotdogs.
Rain during camping is not exactly considered a fun camping experience. A gloomy and wet weather in a camping trip will probably be a downer for kids expecting to go trekking and do all sorts of activities outdoors. Therefore, it is important to have some backup in case mother nature drops one you. Books, board games, audio players and other toys and gadgets are the type of backups kids will enjoy.
