Learning to speak Spansh can be easy, if you go about it the right way…

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Spanish is a “romance language”, coming from the common or “street” Latin spoken in the Roman Empire. Latin has had a great influence on English. Latin was once the “official” language of England; the Magna Carta was written in Latin, which was the official language of England at the time. For this reason English and Spanish have common roots, which makes Spanish easy for English-speakers to learn.

The best way to learn to speak Spanish is to take an interactive audio course. Good ones are available that you can buy and download from the Internet immediately. Once on your hard disk in mp3 format, you can offload copies to your iPod or other portable listening device. Or you could burn the lessons into CD’s and play them back on any CD player anywhere.

Rocket Spanish has achieved a degree of fame as arguably the best course out there. Their course has many useful and interesting features.

So how to learn Spanish? The best way is conversationally. You learn some basic vocabulary, a few words. Then you practice using these in spoken conversation. You ask and answer questions. You communicate. Doing that impresses the words on your mind and lets you assimilate them as tools useful for communication. You learn by using the language, not by memorizing vocabulary and conjugating verbs. Think about it. How old were you when you first learned what the word “conjugation” meant? I’ll bet you could already speak pretty good, effective English then!

Your Spanish accent will be no better than that of the person who taught you. Rocket Spanish teaches you with excellent native Spanish-speakers so you learn it right.

The perfect time to celebrate Shakespeare love poems and other sonnets

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

For those who care for the poems of past, this year and the month of May can be considered as one of the best ways to relish these poems. And to be more exact, this is the time to show appreciation once again to the great sonnet works of Shakespeare, Shakespeare being one of the big names when it comes to cute love poems and sonnets about love. But why is May a perfect time to celebrate love and cherish the poems of Shakespeare?

The year as the 400th year of Shakespeare’s sonnets and poems.

Well the third week of the month of May marks the 400th anniversary of the publication of Shakespeare’s sonnets. According to records, the first edition of the sonnets which include some great poems was released on May 20, 1609 and this was made possible by Thomas Thorpe. Other sources will zero-in on a different date, but still they are one in saying that the first edition of the master’s sonnets was published in 1609, thus the year 2009 marks the 400th year of the sonnet’s existence. After 400 years of being published, Shakespeare words as used on his poems remain true, popular and continues to promote love. And the question is, will there be modern words as well that can lasts for the next 400 years and match the longevity of the words and the poems of this great master?

What are sonnets and love poems?

As a lead off to the celebration, some Shakespearean scholars have noted that Thorpe may have released the poems and the sonnets of Shakespeare without the consent of the author. But whether or not there was consent, the important thing is that the precious gems of Shakespeare in the form of sonnets and poems has been made available and has inspired many generations of lovers. The sonnets of the poet are actually forms of poems, and these sonnets are considered as the most common forms of poetry. Sonnets that talk of love, called love poems in general are poems composed of thirteen lines and these poems contain a set rhyme and arranged in a logical structure. But perhaps the best description for these sonnets is that these sonnets are associated with love poetry and as such they are known as love poems. Poems in the form of sonnets are known to use the poetic diction that is based more on vivid imagery.

Reasons why sonnets and love poems of Shakespeare and other masters stand the test of time.

And the best known poems and sonnets are the ones written by Shakespeare. The sonnets and poems of Shakespeare introduced many generations of lovers to timeless poems’ lines. Lovers and couples who know their love poems know these lines’ “shall I compare thee to a summer’s day” or perhaps the more vivid “remembrance of things past”. Poems of this celebrated poet contain lines that express many thoughts about love and even betrayal. Sonnets and poems that talk about love are considered as the most personal poems around, may be because these poems addresses one of the most important emotions known to man- to love. These kinds of poems are here to stay, as long as man continues to love. Just look at the works of Shakespeare- it continues to make the romantics’ heart beat faster even after 400 years.

Washington DC Tourists

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

There is so much to see and do in our nation’s capital, Washington, DC that it is kind of very unlikely to see them all in one visit. However, that didn’t stop my other half and kids from making an attempt to cover everything on our fresh holiday. Here are only a few of the highlights we experienced on that vacation.

Our first challenge before we even left home was finding an inexpensive place to stay in the Washington, DC area. For the main part, hostels are pretty dear in that area and make it tricky to find a good place for a family of 5 to remain without totally blowing the old budget. We ended up choosing the American Hotel in Bethesda, MD and are awfully happy with our choice. It’s not the most glamorous hotel in the area but very convenient, clean and affordable. So, we highly reccomend it when looking for Bethesda hotels.

Then, on to the tourist sites we enjoyed. Naturally we started with the famous Countrywide Monuments and Memorials. These included the Lincoln Commemorative , the Jefferson Memorial, the Washington Monument, and the Arlington National Cemetery. There were several more as Washington is a town of monuments and memorials. Many are located on the nation’s Mall but others are pretty spread out so that you will get a very good walk exercise if you plan to visit them all on foot as we did. (I admit I had to visit my Sacramento podiatrist when I got back home to deal with some foot pain from so much walking)

Next came our tour of the three different branches of official Executive buildings. When sightseeing in Washington, D.C., the regime, the Capitol and the Supreme Court are key places to go to. Touring these impressive buildings will help you understand more about our executive and its history. Plan in advance and find out about schedules and special events. The White House is the home and office of the President and is found at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW. To order a tour you should make a request through one of your members of Congress. Group tours are held Tuesday through Sat. from 7:30 a. M. And are lined up one month in advance.

At the east end of the nation’s Mall stands the majestic U. S. Capitol Building. Due to heightened security, the Capitol is open to the public for steered tours only.

The one thing you will need to do for sure is take a large amount of pictures as you think that you’re going to remember everything as you are going to remember everything as you are so impressed at the time but believe me, your memories have a tendency to fade and it is always better to have some footage to help bring those memories into sharp focus. I’m not a Commercial Photographer but wish I was to have better captured some of the beauty we saw on ths trip

Also, in addition to the typical tourist attractions discussed above, you will find that the Washington, DC area has some of the best restaurants in the country. I suppose this may be due to all of the important politicians that live there as well as the many dignitaries that visit the area and need to go out to eat.

Well, that rather sums up our trip and I can only hope that you get the opportunity to visit the Washington, DC area.

Exotic Bonsai Choices To Add To Your Collection

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

The majority of bonsai gardeners are content with the more common coniferous, deciduous, or fruit trees when creating their bonsai tree collection.  But, more exotic bonsai varieties are available that allow the bonsai artist to enhance his or her skills.

An superb alternative to the common bonsai is Wisteria, a native of Japan, Korea, and China.  In the wild, Wisteria can reach 30 feet or more in size.  However, because Wisteria doesn’t conform to any of the normal bonsai styles, forming them into a bonsai can be an interesting challenge.

The Wisteria flowers are both aromatic and beautiful and come in a variety of colors, including blue, purple, pink, and white.  Flowering in the Spring, they need lots of water with adequate drainage and they do well in any where from full sun to partial shade.  Just before they blossom in the spring, you should provide them with a good amount of fertilizer, and once again in late summer before they drop their leaves.

Another alternative is Orange Jasmine which will provide a delight to the nose and beauty to the eye.  Orange Jasmine bears a bright red fruit and fragrant, white blossoms.

Feed Orange Jasmine every three to four weeks starting in early spring and continuing through mid-autumn.  Only light watering is adequate for most of the year, with a little more required in the hotter summer season.

Because they generally grow better in moderate shade or filtered sun, Orange Jasmine is one of the few bonsai that can, and should be grown indoors.

The Mimosa tree, also occasionally known as silk trees due to their long silky filaments, offer another good alternative.  They are as fragrant as both of the two choices mentioned above and their puffy flowers and lacy foliage are also just as lovely.

The Mimosa’s flowers bloom in late April to early July and moderate water should be provided during this period.  However, you should avoid getting water on the flowers because, much like a number of other flowering plants, the flowers will quickly deteriorate when wet.

If you choose to cultivate a Mimosa, it will be one of the larger bonsai in your collection since they have large leaves, grow rapidly, and are difficult to maintain at a very small size.  So be sure to give then adequate room in your display area.

Another non-traditional bonsai is the Desert Rose.  The Desert Rose can turn what would be an ordinary bonsai collection into one full of color and excitement.  It is a native of East Africa and in the wild can grow up to 10 feet tall, producing large, pink, trumpet-bowl flowers.

The Desert Rose should be kept outdoors most of the year as they need plenty of sunshine and lots of fresh air.  With their very bushy growing habit, they will make a fine design complement to the many traditional bonsai in your collection.

However, the Desert Rose is sensitive to cold, so they should be brought indoors in cold climates or during periods of cold weather as they will not thrive in temperatures below 10C (50F).  With temperatures in the 10C-15C (50F-60F) range, they will lie dormant and healthy and during this period they will need very little water.

You should try your hand at some of these exotic fragrant and beautiful flowering plants to expand your horizon and further develop your bonsai gardening skills. They provide a nice contrast when placed among some of the more standard evergreens, such as, junipers, pines, and firs.  Additionally, as they lose their leaves in the fall and blossom in the spring, you’ll have an interesting ever-changing display.

George Dodge enjoys landscaping and gardening as a hobby.  Bonsai gardening offers hours of enjoyment producing delightful miniture shrubs and trees as an art form. His Bonsai Tree Gardening site offers tips for the beginning bonsai gardener.  Experiment with exotic bonsai choices to enhance your collection.

Why personality tests?

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

One of the favorite human pastimes is to try andunderstand oneself and other persons. And it is often much harder to understand oneself!

One instrument that may make it easier are personality tests.

A personality test aims to discover aspects of a person’s character that stay stable throughout that person’s lifetime, the individual’s character pattern of behavior, thinkings, and feelings.

Already the old Greeks…

An early model of personality was posited by Greek philosopher/physician Hippocrates.

His theory divided personalities into four groups, depending on which bodily fluid was dominating the personality, into sanguinic, choleric, melancholic and phlegmatic

Modern tests

The 20th century heralded a new interest in defining and identifying separate personality types, in close correlation with the growth of the discipline of psychology. As such, several distinct tests emerged; some attempt to identify specific characteristics, while others try to describe personality in general.

There are numerous different types of personality tests. Common personality tests consist of a large number of items, where respondents must grade the pertinence of each item to themselves.

Projective tests, such as the TAT and ink blot tests are a different form of personality test which try to evaluate personality indirectly.

Scoring

Personality tests can be scored using a dimensional, where different aspects of personality ar rated on scales, or a typological, where each aspect is placed either in one type or in another, approach.

Dimensional approaches such as the Big 5 describe personality as a set of continuous dimensions on which individuals differ.

Typological approaches such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator describe opposing categories of functioning where individuals differ. Normative responses for each category can be charted as bell curves (normal curves), implying that some aspects of personality are better than others.

Ipsative test responses offer two equally “good” responses between which an individual must choose. Such responses (e.g., on the MBTI) would result in bi-modal graphs for each category, rather than bell curves.

Personality tests such as the Strength Deployment Inventory (r), which assesses motivation, or purpose, of behavior, rather than the behavior itself, combine a dimensional and typological approach as described here. Three continuums of motivation are combined to yield 7 distinct types.

Many, but by no means all, psychological researchers believe that the dimensional approach is more accurate, although as judged by the popularity of the Myers-Briggs tool, typological approaches have substantial appeal as a self-development tool.

Few personality tests accurately predict behavior in a specific context. For example, with some of the five factor model tests, only one of the five factors is significantly correlated with job performance.

Emotive tests can become prey to unreliable results as most people strive to pick the answer they feel the best fitting of an ideal character and therefore not their personal response.

Test evaluation

There are several criteria for evaluating a personality test. Fundamentally, a personality test is expected to demonstrate reliability (produce similar results when a person takes the test again) and validity (the results show what they claim to show).

Criticism and controversy

Biased test taker interpretation

One problem of a personality test is that the users of the test could only find it accurate because of the subjective validation involved. This is where the person only acknowledges the information that applies to them. This is related to what is called in psychology as the Forer effect.

Personality versus social factors

In the 60s and 70s some psychologists dismissed the whole idea of personality, considering much behaviour to be content specific. This idea was supported by the fact that personality often does not predict behaviour in specific contexts. However, more extensive research has showed than when behaviour is aggregated across contexts, that personality can be a modest to good predictor of behaviour. Almost all psychologists now acknowledge that both social and individual difference factors (i.e., personality) influence behaviour. The debate is currently more around the relative importance of each of these factors and how these factors interact.

Respondent faking

One problem with self-report measures of personality is that respondents are often able to distort their responses. This is particularly problematic in employment contexts and other contexts where important decisions are being made and there is an incentive to present oneself in a favourable manner. Work in experimental settings (e.g., Viswesvaran & Ones, 1999; Martin, Bowen & Hunt, 2002) has clearly shown that when student samples have been asked to deliberately fake on a personality test, they clearly demonstrated that they are capable of doing so.

Several strategies have been adopted for reducing respondent faking. One strategy involves providing a warning on the test that methods exist for detecting faking and that detection will result in negative consequences for the respondent (e.g., not being considered for the job). Forced choice item formats (ipsative testing) have been adopted which require respondents to choose between alternatives of equal social desirability. Social desirability and lie scales are often included which detect certain patterns of responses, although these are often confounded by true variability in social desirability. More recently, Item Response Theory approaches have been adopted with some success in identifying item response profiles that flag fakers. Other researchers are looking at the timing of responses on electronically administered tests to assess faking.

Psychological Research

Personality testing is frequently used in psychological research to test various theories of personality.

Research published by David Dunning of Cornell University, Chip Heath of Stanford University and Jerry M. Suls of the University of Iowa reveals that observers who are not involved in any type of relationship with an individual are better judges of the individual’s relationships and abilities. These workers have studied a large body of investigations into self-evaluation, indicating that individuals may have flawed views about themselves and their social relationships, sometimes leading to decisions that can impact negatively on other persons’ lives and/or their own.

Additional applications

A study by American Management Association reveals that 39 percent of companies surveyed use personality testing as part of their hiring process. However, ipsative personality tests are often misused in recruitment and selection, where they are mistakenly treated as if they are normative measures.[1] More people are using personality testing to evaluate their business partners, their dates and their spouses. Salespeople are using personality testing to better understand the needs of their customers and to gain a competitive edge in the closing of deals. College students have started to use personality testing to evaluate their roommates. Lawyers are beginning to use personality testing for criminal behavior analysis, litigation profiling, witness examination and jury selection.

Dangers of using personality tests

It is easy for personality test participants to become complacent about their own personal uniqueness and instead become dependent on the decription associated with them. This can be potentially dangerous with persons who are already suffering from a form of identity disorder or may be a catalyst to instigate particular behaviours in a person who was previously believed to be of sound mental health.

Examples of personality tests

    * The Rorschach inkblot test was introduced in 1921 as a way to determine personality by the interpretation of abstract inkblots.

    * Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is a 16-type indicator based on Carl Jung’s Psychological Types, developed during World War II by Isabel Myers and Katherine Briggs.

    * Keirsey Temperament Sorter developed by David Keirsey is influenced by Isabel Myers sixteen types and Ernest Kretschmer’s four types.

    * The 16PF Questionnaire (16PF) was developed by Raymond Cattell and his colleagues in the 1940’s and 1950’s in a search to try to discover the basic traits of human personality using scientific methodology. The test was first published in 1949, and is now in its 5th edition, published in 1994. It is used in a wide variety of settings for individual and marital counseling, career counseling and employee development, in educational settings, and for basic research.

     * The Strength Deployment Inventory, developed by Elias Porter, Ph.D. in 1971 and is based on his theory of Relationship Awareness. Porter was the first known psychometrician to use colors (Red, Green and Blue) as shortcuts to communicate the results of a personality test.

Reach Currency Trading Fortune with this easy steps

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Currency trading or Foreign exchange trading is viewed to be one of the most exciting business opportunities. It is not very difficult to learn forex trading, and the skills of trading with foreign currencies can be acquired by everyone. However, the fact is that over 9/10th of people trading currencies lose their pants. So, how complicated is it to actually make successful inroads in the market of currencies? If experts are to be believed, if certain rules and advices are adopted, it is possible for any one to achieve currency trading success.

Success in this market needs proper methods, discipline and a positive mindset. This is basically the reason why most people lose money here. Besides the the right knowledge of proper forex trading, one also needs to have the above referred virtues as well in order to succeed. In the article we will discuss some ways to create the correct mindset that is required for currency trading success.

1. Smart working and not hard working is the key: The field of forex trading requires one to work smart and not necessarily hard. While in most cases, your achievement depends on how much effort you give in, but here at forex trading, one gets success only when he or she is correct in making the proper decision. Certain myths are associated with Forex trading. The investor with proper knowledge of the market will never pay heed to such myths, and make the right decisions, which will help him succeed. Smart working can help a person learn all about forex trading within a fortnight and start making profits the next day itself, since forex is one of the investment options option there is.

2. Having confidence is the basic preparation: One needs to have confidence to succeed in any form of job, irrespective of whether it is related to investment or not. People do not talk much about confidence as a key component of successful trading, but according to most experts in this field it is an extremely important factor while implementing a transaction. This is something that no tutorial on earth will help you with. It generally comes from within. The confidence can only come in when one has accomplished knowledge about the forex market and its running.

3. Without discipline, one can not think of accomplishing success: This virtue happens to be the most vital component of successful currency trading. Discipline must be there in all your methods otherwise it cannot be considered as a method in the first place. Discipline comes only when one has the proper knowledge of the market fundamentals and also is confident about his/her trading capabilities. These three qualities: confidence, knowledge and discipline are the only key ingredients that help you to accomplish currency trading success.

4. Passion to make it: One needs to have passion about what he or she is doing. This is something that is not a prerequisite for trading, but if you have it, its pretty much done as he/she happens to be in the correct path. Acquiring knowledge would not be a problem for the passionate, its just the confidence and the discipline that one requires to control, and then success is unavoidable.

Because of the late nights internet marketers often work, waking up at 11am or later is not uncommon… Normally my day can get rolling slowly to say the least! As far as the marketer is concerned there might be new things to update and statistics to keep track on. The site design has to be revised. The marketer knows that a well-designed site can increase sign ups from visitors. It can also help in the affiliate’s conversion rates.

That done, it is time to submit the affiliate program to directories that list affiliate programs. These directories are means to attract people in joining your affiliate program. A sure way of promoting the affiliate program.

In order to go further it’s important to understand the basics… Let us take a quick look at how PPC Search Engines work. These engines create listings and rate them based on a bid amount the website owner is willing to pay for each click from that search engine. Advertisers bid against each other to receive higher ranking for a specific keyword or phrase.

An internet marketer has one primary goal, that mission is to become an expert in their niche and make money online. How do you make money by using PPC into your affiliate marketing business? Most affiliate programs only pay when a sale is made or a lead delivered after a visitor has clickthrough your site. Your earnings will not always be the same as they will be dependent on the web site content and the traffic market.

In the world of affiliate marketing, you will come across products and services that sell and ones that don’t, the key to finding ways to make money is centered around conversion rates…

With these types of activities mistakes will often be made for people who are not seasoned veterans… Many people have lost their shirt trying to run successful PPC campaigns.

Instead of jumping on the bandwagon, try top choose a product in which you are truly interested in. For any endeavor to succeed, you should take some time to plan and figure out your actions.

Affiliate marketing is always centered around a product, service or topic… If you were promoting something in the medical field like free tummy tucks, it might be a good idea to find a complimentary offering… Time is the key. Take the time to analyze your marketing strategy and check if you are on the right track. If done properly, you will be able to maximize your affiliate marketing program and earn higher profits.
